THIRD GRADERS
"Last week in GT we started the day by learning what
Chinese New Year is, the tradition of Chinese New Year was started around the
14 century BC , although the two week holiday can vary it starts around the
second full moon after the winter solstice or sometime between January 21and
February 19, you might be wondering why they celebrate this holiday, well the
reason is that, along time ago in China after the winter families would meet up
for two week holiday to see who had survived the winter and who hadn't,
nowadays families still meet up just like they used to but since most people
don't need to worry about how much food they have for the winter they just do
it as a tradition like Christmas, they all bring food and the elders bring
lucky money in a red envelope to give to the children, as for the food a whole
fish represents abundance and a chicken represents good luck, they like to make
very complex foods for the holiday, The day before the holidays begin the
family has the biggest meal yet.
Another part of Chinese new year is what year it is they
have a 12 year group just like we have 10 years in a decade, each year has a respective animal,
2016 is the year of the monkey, and people who were born in a certain year have
certain traits, all of us were born in the year of the Dog or the year of the
Boar, all of us were born in either 2006 or 2007.
After we learned all of this we had a little bit of fun
during lunch by trying to eat our food with chopsticks and then having a
fortune cookie for dessert. The we read some Tuck Everlasting and did some
research for our brain project, when we
finished that we did some algebra then got our things to leave for our
classrooms." By Marianna

FOURTH GRADERS
"Today in GT class we were starting to paint our
artist paintings, sculptures, sketches,or other things our artist did.We used oil
pastels,paint,chalk pastels,clay,mosaic tiles,tissue paper,and stuff I don't
know.We did all kinds of things,I really liked Shloka's flower field. That's
what we did for the morning and part of the noon.In our last hour or so we
learned about the Chinese New Year. Ryan told us all the story about Chinese zodiac and the race of the animals. The mouse just used the bigger
animals because he knew he was small and couldn't win.I also feel bad about the
cat and why it is not in the Chinese zodiac all because the mouse betrayed the
cat.that's probably why cats and mice hate each other."
