KINDER
Welcome to GT!
The kindergarten students spent part of the day exploring the science center and all the magnificent items from  snake eggs, pheasant feathers, a turtle shell and so much more. They designed covers for their shape books and we briefly went over the 2D and 3D shapes.

FIRST
We continue to work on understanding depth and complexity as we learn. Students were shown a whisk and thought of other uses for it besides stirring items. They had fun inventing new ideas and were rather creative with them.  Since using the Osmo is one of their favorite things to play, we allowed some time in their day to play with WORDS.

Learning about anagrams has been fun! Reading the book Punished has taught us about oxymorons and anagrams.

5th graders
This week in G.T. we started our marvelous day by eating red pummelo, which is like grapefruit. Mrs. Horan saw it at the store and knew we would be interested in this huge, new to us fruit. Then, we learned about pi and listened to a book about it. We learned that pi is the circumference of a circle divided by its diameter and the quotient will be approximately three and one-seventh. After that, we measured pi. First, we wrapped a piece of yarn around a circular object and then cut the yarn so it could only wrap around the circular object once and measured it. Then, we took the piece of yarn and stretched it across the diameter and cut it, we were able to do this three times with the piece of yarn and had approximately one-seventh left over. Next we measured each piece of cut yarn to make sure we did it correctly. We also debated about whether Apple should unlock a terrorists's phone, there was team Pro-Apple(Apple shouldn't unlock the phone) and Anti-Apple (Apple should unlock the phone).Later, we read "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" and it was very interesting. Finally, we worked on our philosophy books which let us express our creativity. I can't wait for next week!!! By Gloria
