Dissecting sheep brains.

We started the day with  meeting our pet corn snake  whose name is Cornelius . Next we went to the computer lab and learned awesome sites for coding. We worked on several levels. Our major project is to design a holiday card by December using as many steps as possible. We dissected sheep eyes, discussing each step as we took it apart. We  ended up with a class filled with doctors! It was so amazing . After that we worked on our Veterans Day project. It involved painting a  flag with words described America. That was all about our fabulous day at GT.

Michael and Carson had no fear!

At first Emma wanted no part in this experiment, but after a while she got into it!

Noah and Madeleine were the first to cut the eye open and examine it. They were fascinated by the whole thing.

We started our day off with a puzzling perplexer and briefly  talked about coding on the computers. We went to the computer lab and started learning about coding and then started coding. We are working on creating an animated holiday card using coding to make it move. Then we started working on a Veterans Day project.
We finally finished or Veterans Day project and they look AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!
We read some of The Giver and we learned about the word "philo" ( Which  means love) and we also learned about the word " sopho" (which means wise) So today was a GREAT day!!!!!!-

Deep into G/T.- October 20th

2nd grade at a glimpse

After the  students constructed their building they had to write the name of their place and what the facility was used for.

We started the day by solving logic problems then we talked about systems and how they work. After that we watched a video called Who Speaks for Wolf? We built a fake fire and used a flashlight as our fire, as we discussed the video and part of the book. We guessed the rule about math and we made a
book called Welcome to Dictionopilis . We worked on centers and it was a challenging day!

G.T is so amazing! We started off our fabulous day with learning about the Mona Lisa and playing some games related  to Mona Lisa like Trivia and Match the Parodies. When we were finished we  formed a paper that is the exact size of the Mona Lisa. We  went  into a hallway and made   the exact size frame out of yard sticks. People stood on the corners to make the perimeter so we could all see what the size of Mona Lisa looks like in comparison to her actual bullet-proof frame! We leaned a lot about perspective and draw lines to show we understood the lesson. We ended the day by using the ipads to make pictures of clever perspectives.

In the last 2 weeks we started off with Perplexers and Quotation Quizzlers. Last week we talked about the Gettysburg Address and Kaitlyn Z. memorized the WHOLE Gettysburg Address in a week! (And earned a Blue Raspberry Nerd Slush!!) To prove how we trust people and things, we actually  walked on RAW eggs!! So, you can "walk on eggshells around people and survive!
Today we read 2 chapters of The Giver and wrote poems for Veterans Day ( they will be judged.) We got a new class pet turtle (Raphael) and went outside and observed him. We watched for patterns in his behavior.  We let him out of his box and wanted to see where he would go, we recorded our results.  Lizzie did an experiment with Ivory soap. Then we topped it all off by reading our poems to the class. We read the famous inaugural speech from F.D.R. and we had a class  discussion about  "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself".

And, did you know that.....................................

In GT we played  a guessing game about Leonard Da Vinci's, Mona Lisa. Mrs. Horan gave us clues and we had to guess what painting she was describing. We got to eat lunch with our fabulous teacher,  Mrs.Horan . When we got back from recess our zoo keeper brought a surprise for us. We got a new pet lizard! We watched some hilarious parodies and laughed our heads off! Next we learned new things about Mona Lisa, like how some people think there are two Mona Lisa's. We learned  that Leonardo painted in sfumato style , where you paint layers on top of layers. The original painting has animals hidden in the background and can now be found under a bullet proof glass in Paris,France. We ended the day by drawing our own parody of Mona Lisa.

Week of October 6-10th

We started the day by presenting our homework assignment about doldrums. We went to the computer lab and found out a lot about ourselfs it asked us questions like, do you enjoy relaxing? It was called a multiple intelligence test. Then we answered them to see what parts of our brain we used the most. After that we read more about the Phantom Tollbooth. We have a homework assignment due next week about this book. It can be found on Goole Classroom.  We then discovered about the two parts of the brain and what each one stands for.  After that we  made ourselfs on a piece of paper then we put a tree on top of it and we put the things that we learned about the right and left brain next to the tree.
