Kindergarten

A friendly scavenger hunt looking for  Dr. Seuss' green eggs. Each egg stated interesting facts about this well known author.

Wearing our white (information)  hats. This helps us to find the answers to "What are the facts?"

After reading the book, The Great Fuzz Frenzy, students designed their own  groundhogs and together they made the tunnels that the animals  would live in.

After this we watched a video about coding and wrote down three things that we didn't know about it, then also related with our journals we went to the fifth grade computer lab to take down notes on our brain project research. When we got back we looked at some optical illusions, and they made our brains melt!

After that we took some Binary and turned it into text then we took some text and turned it into binary and then made our own sentence in Binary then since we were already doing Binary we decided to extend the yellow papers that we had first learned Binary with.

Then we got out the iPads and learned what Kahoot is, Kahoot is a sort of online quiz that you can do as a class. When we to finished that we read a couple chapters of Tuck Everlasting. When Mrs. Horan remembered about the tune Lydia had made on Compose Yourself, she let us listen to it and then told us to draw, with watercolor, what we saw while listening to her music. While we are doing this since it was Dario's birthday he passed out doughnuts and we had a little snack before we got our things and went back to our classrooms."

Today was awesome.First thing we did in the morning was go ask the 4 grade, about our surveys. It was like, which one do you prefer ------------------or--------------------.?  After that,we started to read Macbeth in a kids version. We took a long time to finish. We were about half way when we had to go eat lunch and do our other daily things.Once we got back we finished the book, and wrote character traits for all the characters. Then, a third grader came and showed us his robotic arm he built. But then we had to go to the Dr.Seuss read along so we didn't get 30 more minutes of GT :-(    by Cindy
Preparing to start our surveys for the 4th graders. When through, the students will design their graphs to place in their Pictographs.

Having fun celebrating Dr. Seuss week in our library. Our librarian, Mrs. Pippert, sure knows how to make this a fun opportunity for all the students.

Learning the all the characters in Macbeth can be difficult,

 but NOT impossible!

KINDER
Welcome to GT!
The kindergarten students spent part of the day exploring the science center and all the magnificent items from  snake eggs, pheasant feathers, a turtle shell and so much more. They designed covers for their shape books and we briefly went over the 2D and 3D shapes.

FIRST
We continue to work on understanding depth and complexity as we learn. Students were shown a whisk and thought of other uses for it besides stirring items. They had fun inventing new ideas and were rather creative with them.  Since using the Osmo is one of their favorite things to play, we allowed some time in their day to play with WORDS.

SECOND
Learning about anagrams has been fun! Reading the book Punished has taught us about oxymorons and anagrams.

This week in G.T. we started our marvelous day by eating red pummelo, which is like grapefruit. Mrs. Horan saw it at the store and knew we would be interested in this huge, new to us fruit. Then, we learned about pi and listened to a book about it. We learned that pi is the circumference of a circle divided by its diameter and the quotient will be approximately three and one-seventh. After that, we measured pi. First, we wrapped a piece of yarn around a circular object and then cut the yarn so it could only wrap around the circular object once and measured it. Then, we took the piece of yarn and stretched it across the diameter and cut it, we were able to do this three times with the piece of yarn and had approximately one-seventh left over. Next we measured each piece of cut yarn to make sure we did it correctly. We also debated about whether Apple should unlock a terrorists's phone, there was team Pro-Apple(Apple shouldn't unlock the phone) and Anti-Apple (Apple should unlock the phone).Later, we read "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" and it was very interesting. Finally, we worked on our philosophy books which let us express our creativity. I can't wait for next week!!! By Gloria
