Geometry Cities, Agenda(NOT!), Immortality, Research, and Meeting of the Minds
*****************************************************

Second Graders
Students are now working on  phase four of this semester activity. Geometrocity is a project based, real world application, using geometry and maps. The children are constantly engaged and, as you can see from the photos, working as a team.

Although the day always starts off with a structured agenda, I find myself allowing the students the  opportunity to see how the lesson flows. Something in the classroom might get their attention and from there we build upon that. Today it was this simple "contained adventure" that had hidden objects. They worked on it for a LONG time. I didn't say much, for I was just enjoying the conversation between Kaylie and Francis.

Can you find the "K" for Kaylie?
Can you find the "F", for Francis?

Our science table full of interesting items.

Playing Zimbos helps with learning how things can be balanced.

Third Grade
We went to the computer lab today and played around with Design Squad Nation, which is a highly engaging and

effective way to teach kids to develop complex and original

solutions to engineering problems. See link below.

Students finished the book Tuck Everlasting. It is a fantasy children's novel by Natalie Babbitt. It was published in 1975. It explores the concept of immortality and the reasons why it might not be as desirable as it appears to be.
